LG+W Lifeguarding plus Waterfront Module
Life-threatening aquatic emergencies often happen on the lake front. It is
imperative that staff are trained to meet these unique challenges in a similar
environment in which they will be working. Typical LG courses do not address the
unique
environmental factors associated with guarding and managing a waterfront on a
natural body of water. This course
provides a complete skills instruction package incorporating equipment-based
rescues, spinal injury management,
post-rescue care, First Aid and CPR training. Participants receive multiple
certifications: LIFEGUARDING + WATERFRONT INCLUDING FIRST-AID & CPR (Valid for 3
years).
Participants must first successfully complete a pre-course session consisting of
the following:
a. Swim 500 yards continuously using breast stroke, crawl, and sidestroke (200
yards each of freestyle & breast stroke, followed by 100 yards of (your choice)
breast or crawl
b. Tread water for 2 minutes with hands under arm pits, using legs only.
c. Submerge to a depth of 7 feet, retrieve a 10 lb. object and return to
surface.
d. Swim 25 yards from shallow to deep end, pick up a 10 lb. brick and return to
shallow end.

WSI Water Safety Instructor
Take one course and get two certifications. Learn how to teach life saving
skills to others by becoming an American Red Cross Swim Instructor, and learn
the skills necessary to efficiently and accurately teach strokes. Learn to teach
the seven levels of the Learn to Swim Program, the Infant and Preschool Aquatics
Program, and the Community Water Safety and Water Safety Instructor Aide
courses. Bring weather appropriate clothing. Students must successfully complete
a pre-course screening which includes swimming 50 yards of all strokes,
butterfly (25 yards).Certifications: WSI authorization good for 2 calendar
years. FIT (no expiration as long as instructors certification is
maintained) All certifications expire on 12/31 of the calendar year. MUST BE A
STRONG SWIMMER TO PARTICIPATE.
