Mountain boarding is one of the hottest new outdoor adventure sports going down right now, and we've been doing it for years. In fact, Camp Carolina was the first camp in the world to offer mountain boarding! It's kinda like snowboarding on grass. Boys who gain experience on the Bunny Slopes in camp are offered the opportunity to try their luck on the gated logging roads in the Pisgah National Forest and Mountain Boarding Parks in the area!
There are over 600 miles of maintained mountain bike trails in Pisgah National Forest and Dupont State Forest. We have all size mountain bikes for all size boys. We ride hard tail disc brake bikes with a front shock for great downhill stability. We keep 30 mountain bikes in our program. Boys are offered 1/2 day, full day and overnight bike rides. We often shuttle much of the uphill so that boys get long downhill rides.
Day hikes to area swimming holes are a long tradition at Camp Carolina. The natural slides and pools that we go to are clear, clean and very refreshing! You can stand under a waterfall or jump deep into pot holes to do a fish count.
Our backpacking program is full-on, and choices are almost unlimited, from Shining Rock Wilderness Area to Joyce Kilmer to the Great Smokies to the Gorges State Park. The opportunities to have a wilderness experience at Camp Carolina are endless.
Paintball is one of the most exciting activities we do at camp. We use state-of-the-art equipment to provide a safe and fun experience for boys ages 11 and up.
There are many options if you want tosaddle up and hit the trail at Camp Carolina! Our goal is to make horseback riding fun and safe but also to teach how to care for the horses and be responsible for the trails we use. We teach skills in the ring and, when campers are ready, we take them on the trails for half-day, full-day and overnight trips.
is one of the greatest pursuits we offer here for many reasons. Climbing is cerebral. It doesn't take brute strength. There is no pressure from teammates. It's just you and the rock. We have success story after success story of boys who've arrived at camp with low self-esteem, try rock climbing and their confidence increases dramatically. They try another non-competitive sport here, gaining more self-confidence as they go, and return home with their self-esteem soaring! We use state-of-the-art climbing equipment. We hire experienced lead climbers and then put them through rigorous training pre-season. We provide campers with custom-fitted harness, helmets and climbing shoes. Routes are set up where we know all boys can be successful. We climb locally at Looking Glass Rock. During the Main Session we sometimes travel to Sand Rock Alabama, T-Wall Tennessee, or New River Gorge in West Virginia. ![]()
is one the most mentally challenging and exciting activities offered here by our mountaineering staff. Kids love it! We have local caves that we can do half-day , full- day and overnight caving trips. We guarantee lots of mud and true darkness! Bring your own headlamp or use one of ours! All leaders are trained profesionals.
