At Camp fire we sing rousing songs, we're entertained by our story teller, give trip reports, and present the Old Man of the Mountain Award. This is not an award for excellence, athletic prowess, or for personal achievement. It is an award to recognize good citizenship. All boys are eligible for the Old Man of the Mountain Award each week, but like all awards that mean something it must be earned. "A canoe paddle, a useful instrument in a boy's hand". When we call your name, come down, give Alfred a firm handshake, and look him in the eye, and we'll present you with your award.

There are many things you can do at Camp Carolina, but the only award you can receive here is The Old Man of The Mountain Award which is given out for good citizenship. There are ten steps in the award, the first is the paddle. After that there are nine different brands that follow each other. The award is given out every Friday night during campfire where the whole camp sings songs and there is a story told and trip reports are given. Good citizenship means that you treat all campers and counselors respectfully and considerately, helping others, voluntary work, and other things that you could do for the benefit of others. You won’t get your paddle if you don’t listen to your counselors, or you are mean to other campers.
The award is always an honor to get, and an even greater honor to finish all ten steps.”
