Ethan Holtman

In-Camp

Hi everyone! My name is Ethan Holtman. I am 20 years old and I'm from Cape Town, South Africa. Growing up I was always a very active, excitable kid who loved to try new things and interact with people. A bit contradictory seeing as though I'd consider myself more of an introvert by nature haha. I have grown up hiking in the mountains or swimming in the sea, though most of my time would be spent in the sea or some body of water. This lifestyle led to me becoming a PADI Open Water Scuba Diver when I was 16, and eventually an Instructor when I left school.
I have never been to the USA, so this summer will be my first time, and I'm so excited that I get to experience my first summer in the USA with everyone at camp. I have no doubt that this will be the best summer ever!

What are you most proud of/biggest achievement in life so far?:

My biggest achievement so far is becoming an accomplished PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor and Massage Therapist, both by the age of 19.
What is your favorite hobby/sport/thing to do during your free time?:

To choose just one is really tough, so I’ll say my favorite hobby would be my fire and flow dancing. My main flow is Poi but I also spin staff, Pixel whip, and hoop sometimes. I love poi and flow because it can be a great release of energy or a nice way to slow down and meditate in a way.
My favorite sport would be between hiking and scuba diving!
What is your favorite thing about working with children?:

I love the carefree nature of children and the energy that they have. They remind us to not be so serious and high-strung and to laugh at ourselves more. They make friends so easily which I really admire.
What impact are you most excited to make this year at CCB?:

I'm excited to give the kids a space where they can let their hair down and get messy.  A space where they can learn and grow and have fun while doing it.  Somewhere where they can escape the chaos of the world for a bit. It's been a hectic 2 years with lots of restrictions and I'm sure that's stopped many from getting to learn or experience new things, which is why I'm so excited to get to show the kids that there is still a world of possibilities out there, and so much to learn and do!
What goal or camp philosophy do you really want your campers to learn this summer?:

I really want them to find joy and connection in every moment. To just be themselves and to be fully present and open to connecting with others. There are so many possibilities in every moment and I want the kids to recognize that and embrace that.
