Ethan Shipley

Hello! My name is Ethan, I'm from Sydney, Australia, and I've got to tell you that I am so super excited to see everybody at Camp Carolina for my very first American summer! Now North Carolina is a fair way from Australia, but I can assure you that every Aussie skill and talent I've picked up over the years will certainly come to light during my time at Camp, and I look forward to expressing them as bright as possible when the time comes. Getting to know me, I have been an active lifeguard for over 5 years, and competed in surf lifesaving and surfboard riding events from local competitions, through to national level. My adventures in lifesaving have shown me some of the greatest sights to be seen, though I do believe the beautiful mountains of North Carolina will challenge that. Through my involvement in lifesaving, I have been granted opportunities to teach surfing and surf survival skills to children from all walks of life. My dedication and commitment to lifesaving even awarded me with being elected the Club Captain of my Surf Club! I have strong passion and ambition for all things sport, music, movies and adventure related, so, definitely don't be shy to tell me all about the music you listen to, what your all time favourite movies are and all of the crazy experiences you've had to date. I know that this summer at Camp Carolina is going to be epic and I hope that campers and staff alike are in line for some incredible learning experiences during our adventures at Camp!!

What are you most proud of/biggest achievement in life so far?:

One achievement that I hold close to me is becoming the swim, board paddling and ironman champion in each three disciplines, four consecutive years in a row! All of the hard work I put in training had paid off and this very achievement also contributed to me being voted in as Club Captain!
What is your favorite hobby/sport/thing to do during your free time?:

My favorite hobby is certainly playing guitar! One minute, I pick up my guitar, and the next, 2 hours have passed!
What is your favorite thing about working with children?:

My favorite aspect of working with children is that I am able to pass on skills and talents that I learned as a young boy, to inspiring young people that will hopefully one day pass those skills on even further!
What impact are you most excited to make this year at CCB?:

The impact I am most excited to make at CCB is being a memorable positive influence and role model for the young guys at camp! I am excited to teach and demonstrate positive life skills that will stick with them for the long run.
What goal or camp philosophy do you really want your campers to learn this summer?:

I really want the campers to embrace the camp philosophy of self-resilience! I believe that we are able to achieve anything we put our minds to, all we need is some self-belief and resilience to keep going when the going gets tough!
