Hey! I'm Hannah and I'm from all over. I was born and raised in Malawi, moved to Mozambique, then South Africa and now I move between the two. I now love to travel and never stay in one place for too long, there's just too much to see. This year I am graduating from university with an honors degree in Disaster Management, hoping to help vulnerable people and explore different places while doing so. Photography has always been a part of my life and I started a small part-time business a few years ago but prefer to do it as a passion project rather than as a living. I love people and I think kids are pretty cool, probably because I am still one at heart so I can't wait to be at camp this summer!
What are you most proud of/biggest achievement in life so far?:
In my last year of high school, I was chosen to be deputy head girl. This role came with a lot of responsibility and taught me that serving others is the best way to lead. It helped me face different challenges in life with a new perspective and gave me the understanding to help others with similar situations they faced. What is your favorite hobby/sport/thing to do during your free time?:
As much as I love taking photos, sewing is one of my favorite ways to spend the day. I end up making a huge mess and wasting a lot of fabric and time in the process, but I love being able to wear something I made. But when it is a warm day outside, there is nothing better than heading to the beach, going for a swim, and playing a bit of soccer on the sand. What is your favorite thing about working with children?:
They have a wonder and awe about the world and the things around them that we tend to lose as we grow up and get older. I like to be reminded that there is so much joy that life has to offer and children are great at demonstrating that. Even though I am older, there are many children I look up to, for their faith, bravery, and often outright honesty. What impact are you most excited to make this year at CCB?:
I tend to have a knack for spotting kids who sit on the sidelines or those who don't feel included, so I hope that every kid feels important and acknowledged while at camp. I want the boys to know that I always have time for them, whether they need help solving a problem, someone to kick a ball around with, or just someone to talk to. What goal or camp philosophy do you really want your campers to learn this summer?:
As a Disaster Manager, I love that the nature of camp allows the boys to grow a respect for the environment. They have pulled away from cities and technology toward an understanding and passion for the outdoors, obtaining valuable life skills and appreciating all that life has to offer beyond a screen. My favorite memories of childhood and growing up were always outside with friends, creating our own little adventures and I am so glad these kids will have a chance to do that too.
