Jamie Walker

In-Camp

Hi there! My name is Jamie and I’m 18 years old, I come from Sheffield in the north of the UK and I will be a part of the Music team on camp this summer. I have been playing guitar for most of my life, playing in different bands at local venues around the city as well as working at my assessed grades. I also spend a lot of time at the skateparks around Sheffield on my BMX with different groups of friends. I am looking forward to teaching and creating music at camp this summer as well as seeing people giving music a try for the first time!

What are you most proud of/biggest achievement in life so far?:

I'd say my biggest achievement in life so far is getting my grade 8 in electric guitar. It is definitely something I’m proud of because it is the highest music grade achievable and it took over a year of preparation and hard work.
What is your favorite hobby/sport/thing to do during your free time?:

Guitar and making music are huge hobbies of mine, however, writing and playing with my band is definitely the best part. Getting together with a group of good friends and creating songs that we are proud to record and perform is so rewarding and great fun.
What is your favorite thing about working with children?:

My favorite part has to be helping kids learn and improve on an instrument and then seeing the excitement they have when they have learned and practiced a new song or riff. It’s so rewarding being part of their development and watching their passion and interest in music grow.
What impact are you most excited to make this year at CCB?:

I am most excited to be the person who might inspire kids to pick up or get better at an instrument. I can distinctly remember the people that helped me pick up the guitar when I was young and having the chance of being one of those people for these kids is definitely exciting.
What goal or camp philosophy do you really want your campers to learn this summer?:

I am keen for campers to become more confident in themselves. Having skills that you have worked hard at can massively develop your confidence. For me, I know I can sit down and have a session on my guitar and feel great afterward. Whatever the activity, I would like the kids at CCB to find that same feeling and confidence that playing music does for me.
