Mason Murphy

Hi Everyone! My name is Mason Murphy and I’m super excited to be joining everyone at Camp Carolina in the US 2022 summer. I’m 18 and I can’t think of a more amazing adventure to be going on after finishing Year 12 (senior year) in Canberra, Australia. Canberra is known as the ‘Bush Capital’ and although it is the capital of Australia (though many people think Sydney is) it is really just a big country town with lots of open space. It has heaps of opportunities for outdoor activities including mountain biking which I love. I am also a qualified Advanced open water scuba diver with the coast only 2 hours away and in the wintertime, I love to go skiing with the ski fields also only 2 hours away. After my 2022 adventures, I plan on going to university to study Architecture.
What are you most proud of/biggest achievement in life so far?:

My biggest achievement so far is finishing Year 12 and obtaining my Advanced open water scuba diving qualification.
What is your favorite hobby/sport/thing to do during your free time?:

I love mountain biking, basketball, and scuba diving down the South Coast of Australia.
What is your favorite thing about working with children?:

I love children’s enthusiasm, their willingness to have a go, and their energy.
What impact are you most excited to make this year at CCB?:

I hope the biggest impact I can make on the boys at Camp Carolina this summer is to encourage them to experience new activities with a sense of enthusiasm and come away with amazing lifelong memories and a love of the outdoors.
What goal or camp philosophy do you really want your campers to learn this summer?:

Camp Carolina’s philosophy of self-reliance, respect and selflessness toward others and our natural environment, and the thrill of high adventure is something I really hope the 2022 campers will take away from their summer. The opportunities I have had growing up participating in outdoor activities such as mountain biking, scuba diving, basketball and hiking, have taught me the value of determination, independence, and taking every opportunity. I have, perhaps most importantly, made some amazing friends along the way who I think will look on with envy at what’s on offer at Camp Carolina and what the boys get to experience!!
