Hi everyone, My name is James, I am a 21 years old and from a small town called Kirkby Stephen, Cumbria, United Kingdom (I will be surprised if you have heard of the place before!), I am currently a student studying at my local college for a HND in Business Management. I have many interests including creative and outdoor pursuits such as photography, traveling and kayaking! Some of my recent travels in the last few years has included many road trips exploring Scotland, UK (It's small enough to drive around in a few days) as well as going on an expedition kayaking the Caledonian Canal which took me through some of Scotland's most dynamic landscapes. I have also competed both regionally and nationally in the sport of canoe polo achieving gold regionally and silver in my national division.
Most recently I embarked on a 12,000km cycle trip in March 2020 to raise money for the mental health charity CALM, however, I had to come home due to the pandemic, definitely something to attempt again in the future!
I currently work part-time at The Westmorland Family (The only family-run motorway services in the UK!).
In the future, I hope to be a business leader specializing in business development by starting my own company or joining an established enterprise.
What are you most proud of/biggest achievement in life so far?: Having the courage to attempt a 12,000km and 6 month long cycle ride which would have taken me through over 30 countries!
What is your favorite hobby/sport/thing to do during your free time?: I would say being out on the water kayaking, due to the pandemic I haven't done as much as I would like to recently, However, I can't wait to change that and get back out there!
What is your favorite thing about working with children?: Seeing them happy and not worrying about any issues they may be having! Seeing them express themselves and becoming the best possible version of themselves!
What impact are you most excited to make this year at CCB?: I hope to help the campers create some amazing memories and friends, I'll be packing my positive attitude and a willingness to try new things!
What goal or camp philosophy do you really want your campers to learn this summer?: That you don't need technology to have a good time. I personally find myself consumed by my phone and having to respond to emails all the time whilst at home! Having a summer with minimal technology will help is all to improve our communication skills and become more confident people!
