Adventure Staff

My name is Declan and I'm 25. I was born in Zimbabwe and grew up in Mozambique from the age of 6. I currently live in the United Kingdom. I left school at 16 and spent a year at Radical Challenge, an experiential adventure program at an off grid camp in Zimbabwe.
I left Africa in 2016 when I was just 17 years old (on my own) to embark on new challenges and experiences I had only dreamed of. I decided to study to become an Electrician and I have been working mostly in the renewable energy industry which I find really interesting and rewarding.
I'm a very active/sporty person and absolutely love adventure and travelling.
When I was in high school I competed internationally for the Zimbabwean triathlon team and was awarded national colours.

What are you most proud of/biggest achievement in life so far?:

When I was 18 years old I went to Thailand for the whole month of July to train in Muay Thai (Thai Boxing). It was an intense program with 4 hours daily training. This was an incredible adventure and I also got to explore the island, meet amazing people from all walks of life and eat deliciously healthy food.
What is your favorite hobby/sport/thing to do during your free time?:

There are a lot of sports and activities that I am passionate about.
Running, mountainbiking, bouldering and padel tennis are among my favourites.
Water sports have a special place in my heart and I snowboarded in Bulgaria last month.
What is your favorite thing about working with children?:

It's incredible how much influence you can have on young people because they are so open minded. I remember when I was young and the good influences that my idols/mentors had on me. Even the smallest things can have the biggest impact.
What impact are you most excited to make this year at CCB?:

Using my experiences to be a positive and supportive role model to the campers and to show them that they don't need to feel alone or isolated when they don't have access to technology or family.
What goal or camp philosophy do you really want your campers to learn this summer?:

You only live once so if you enjoy something, do it more! It's a fact of life that you'll never stop learning, but what you learn, where and when is up to you.
Why not push yourself to be the best you can and everything becomes more enjoyable.
