Sea Kayaking is definitely a favorite here at Camp Carolina. We paddle our Sea Kayaks on local fresh water lakes on half-day, full-day and overnight trips.
On arrival at any one of our fantastic destinations we all help unpack the gear - kayaks, paddles and PFD’s. Each camper & his paddling partner gear up and a lovely handful of sunscreen is given to each person. “Arms, legs, face, ears & the back of your neck boys & don’t forget the top of your hands!” can be heard as a counselor hands out the sunscreen and makes sure each camper applies a more than decent amount. While the sunscreen sinks in we do a paddle talk with the campers where we go through the basics and get each boy to practice their technique before we hit the water.
As an introduction to sea kayaking we take the campers for a half day trip to Lake Julia in Dupont State Forest. This is a great trip to get to grips with steering and guiding a kayak in the right direction while playing fun games and exploring the beautiful lake.
Our full day trip is at Lake Jocassee in South Carolina, roughly 1 1/2 hour drive from camp. In addition to sea kayaking, there is a beach where the boys have lunch and a decent size jump rock which they cannot get enough of!
