How we Spent our Summer!

How camp carolina Spent our Summer!

What an Enthusiastic few months we have had this summer with our Family and Group Retreats at Camp Carolina! Our retreats provided families and small groups with the perfect opportunity to experience Camp Carolina in a safe and socially distant format and spend plenty of time bonding with each other. We hosted 8 sessions in total, varying from 3 to 5 night stays with families choosing to spend their time in a historic CCB cabin or one of our larger self-contained houses.

Our families took full advantage of everything that CCB has to offer within a flexible schedule. Some families opted for full-day wakeboarding trips (run by the one and only Alfred Thompson) or full-day sea kayaking trips on Lake Jocassee while other families chose to spend more time on-site and hone in on their sharpshooting at Archery and Riflery with Max or learning to shred the skate bowl with Alfred Junior. One thing ALL families chose to do almost daily was the waterfront! I think our campers can agree, not much beats a refreshing swim after a day of activities in the mountains. Families chose between blobbing, paddle boarding, the diving boards, zip-lining, the giant “What A Day” slide or kayaking down at the lake.

One thing that definitely brought us back to the summer days at CCB was the delicious food! Chef Bren and her kitchen team worked tirelessly this summer to provide some of our summer favorites as well as experimenting with new dishes.  They were met with rave reviews from our families. As always, we sourced our food from local organic vendors to ensure our ingredients were top quality; and boy did it pay off. Some favorites were the banana pancakes, the fried chicken wraps, homemade burgers and Bren’s famous Key Lime Pie. Families could choose between eating in the CCB Dining Hall or alfresco at one of the many picnic tables around camp. A favorite place to dine was the chess table under the big tree down by the lake.

Our staff did a fantastic job and wore many hats this summer. We are so grateful for their hard work and enthusiasm to help our families have an amazing stay. In particular, we would like to give a special shout out to our fabulous CIT staff -- Alston (9 years at CCB), Henry (11 years at CCB!), and Alex (Fig) (7 years at CCB!). All 3 staff bought the enthusiasm and spirit of Camp Carolina with them and we are so lucky they chose to spend their summer with us.

As our families said “Please thank your staff again for an amazing week at Family Camp! It exceeded our expectations in every possible way!” and “Our summer at camp was awesome! Our boys had such a wonderful time (as did I). Family Camp was PERFECT (I mean it!).”

We are very excited to start working on Summer 2021. Registration is now open for return and new families and is filling quickly. We have begun hiring new and returning staff for next summer with many returners already signing up for an epic summer at CCB. We have some exciting new additions underway for our campers to experience next summer - stay tuned for those updates throughout the year!
